World_Disability.jpgIn certain cultures, disabilities can be perceived as being related to misconduct in a previous life. And in some instances, a person with a disability is perceived as a disgrace to their family. There are approximately 400 million disabled people in the Asia Pacific Region of which 250 million are of working age. Only 10 percent of children with disabilities are estimated to attend primary school.  Disabled people are often excluded from training and work places.  The majority of disabled people live in rural areas with up to 90 pecent unemployed.  People with disabilities account for 20 percent of the world's poor.
